Cargo Superintendence & Marine Surveys

Pre-shipment inspections, loading supervision and damage surveys across the cargo journey, from loading to discharge, plus marine hull surveys.

Our surveyors protect cargo interests from loading to discharge, and investigate the cause and extent of loss when cargo or vessels are damaged.

Cargo superintendence

  • Pre-shipment inspections: quality, quantity and compliance checks before shipment
  • Loading supervision: stowage, lashing and securing of cargo
  • Damage surveys: cause, extent of loss and carrier liability

Marine surveys

  • Marine cargo: discharge attendance and damage surveys at port
  • Marine hull: seaworthiness checks, damage assessment and replacement cost
  • Recovery rights: protecting insurers' subrogation position against carriers and third parties

Selected results

Marine cargo: sea water entered a vessel's hold during discharge at Tin-Can Island Port, Lagos, damaging over 2,077 tonnes of imported malted barley. We recommended a fair settlement while preserving insurers' recovery rights.

Marine hull: a ramp barge carrying 32 containers sank in heavy weather. We verified seaworthiness, assessed replacement cost and adjusted for the excess and prejudiced recovery rights.
